Today on iMedia Connection, assistant editor Michael Estrin explores debunks 10 SEO myths. The way he goes about it, however, is really interesting. Instead of trying to claim that he’s an omnisciently SEO-savvy, he asks several experts at ad:tech to share some of the most common myths that they encounter with clients.
The article is broken up over six pages, with a different SEO weighing in on each one. Here’s a break down of those.
- Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land leads off with Myth #1: SEO is all about secret tactics
- Kevin Ryan of Search Engine Watch and Search Engine Strategies then continues with Myth #2: SEO means optimizing only for Google
- SEO consultant Shimon Sandler follows up with Myth #3: Submitting your site to thousands of directories helps
and Myth #4: SEO is free - Then Aaron Wall, founder, SEOBook.com weighs in on Myth #5: Keywords need to appear everywhere
- Paul Bruemmer of Red Door Interactive then adds Myth #6: SEO is a one-time event for a website
and Myth #7: SEO will take years to return results - And finally, Google’s very own search evangelist, Adam Lasnik tackles Myth #8: PageRank is the critical measure of a site’s success,
Myth #9: Accessibility doesn’t really matter
and Myth #10: Google has an adversarial relationship with webmasters and publishers
Now, of course, each SEOer goes into much more lenght than a bullet point, but that’s why I’ve linked to the original pages. So if any of these contravene any preconceptions you’ve had about SEO, I strongly encourage you to click through and find our more from one (or any) of these SEO gurus.
