I’m totally stoked to get to video the keynotes at BlogHer and feed them into SecondLife again this year. We are using Veodia this year, and while I appreciate the fact that they offer a QuickTime output so that we can use it in SecondLife, it’s a little annoying to limit the number of users that can view it and the time that we can stream. I understand cost issues, and I’d be glad to pay immediately to upgrade, but their ‘upgrade’ option is to email them so they can determine pricing. Grrr.
Anyhoo, Veodia is the only option, as far as I know and I’m appreciative that it exists. Were it not for this I’d have to use a QuickTime server, and I’ve done that in the past and it’s a pain that I did not want to repeat.
Last year things were so hectic, that I didn’t get to enjoy the SecondLife sessions, but this year I’ve gotten to enjoy a couple already in world. Right now I’m listening to Susan Reynold’s story. If you don’t know Susan, she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and told us all via twitter which launched a hearty frozen peas campaign with people supporting her via pea-themed avatars and later with donations to the American Cancer Society. Her story is a part of the SecondLife For Good session that’s currently going on.
Wow, I mean I remember this going on, but hearing the story fully instead of merely listening via twitter, is so much more powerful. They’re also discussing their issues with getting Linden Labs to set up a directory of non-profits. Of course, as usual with SecondLife sessions, I’m hearing fax machines, phones and some serious heavy breathing, so I can’t tell if it’s Susan talking or someone else telling her story, but either way I’m enjoying the parts I can hear.
If you missed BlogHer in SecondLife, be sure to register next year. It’s a huge value (ie free) if you can’t make the actual conference.
