Firefox v. 3.0

Hi Everyone,

Apparently Firefox is rolling out their new version 3.0 tomorrow, and they are aiming to set a record for “the most downloads over 24 hours” (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7457503.stm).

I’m a loyal firefox user, and will most likely be helping them achieve their goal by downloading the new version tomorrow.

What browser does everyone prefer – Firefox or Internet Explorer? I was surprised to see that 83% of internet users use IE…….

Google launched their Pay Per Action ads March 07. Some predicted doom and gloom for the affiliate marketing industry. In my blog post above I quote Andy Beal from Marketing Pilgrim who said: “To me, it sounds like a clear threat to the likes of Commission Junction or LinkShare – or any other affiliate marketing network. Google, for all intents and purposes, has just entered the affiliate marketing arena, with the battle cry that they can do affiliate marketing better than the affiliate networks can.”

I blogged all along in all my coverage about Google Pay per Action that there was nothing to worry about. They have tried various ways of promoting it to publishers and advertisers. They even tried forced opt-in with Adsense publishers at one point.

So now Search Engine Roundtable clues us in that the program’s future is uncertain and Google may even be having 2nd thoughts about it. Barry wrote: “AdWordsPro Sarah, an official Google representative, responded to a question about the program:”

“Unfortunately, because the Pay Per Action pricing model is in beta, it is invitation only. At this time, invitations are no longer being extended while the product team figures out what direction the model will take in the future.”

Wonder if they’ll try to revive it or just let it die?

One thing is for certain. The doomsayers were wrong and this is just one more thing that was going to ‘kill the affiliate marketing industry’ – but didn’t.

I’m just curious, how does a credit card website get paid when one of its affiliates makes a card sale? For instance, if the affiliate makes $60 commission, how much did the website earn from this performance? Your opinions/thoughts would be appreciate. Thank you.

How does credit card website make money through affiliates?

Does anyone know about WOTC?

OK, so I’ve purchased a pretty solid little datafeed site builder that uses the CJ API. So, no real technical questions here.

What I want to find out is how I can take the best advantage of these. At the moment, I have a blog on my niche as the main site, and have the datafeed store as a subdirectory with many links from the blog to individual product pages. I’ve just started this, so we’ll see what kind of results we get.

However, I did have a couple broad question that I was curious about concerning the use of sites like this, such as:
-What types of niches do well in this format?
-What is the best time efficient way of link building for these? I’m a big fan of article marketing myself, but I’d be curious to find out what works for others.
-What are the common pitfalls to avoid with these types of sites?
-How many sites would you recommend operating concurrently? I plan on covering a fair number of niches since I have no way of knowing which ones are capable of truly big numbers at this point.

I’m pretty excited about the possibilities with these sites, and am curious to hear what you guys think. Thanks.

PartnerCentric, an outsourced affiliate program management company that works with some of top merchants and affiliate marketing partners in the industry, today released the results of its annual survey of affiliate marketers. Dedicated to sharing the latest research with others in the affiliate marketing industry, including merchants and affiliates, PartnerCentric conducts an annual survey to elicit response from the company’s own pool of affiliate marketing partners. Previous PartnerCentric surveys have been published through Marketing Sherpa. “We find it extremely helpful to talk to our partners about important industry issues so that we can continue to find ways to overcome challenges and explore new opportunities,” said PartnerCentric President Linda Woods. “By listening to our partners and sharing what they have to say about important issues of the day, we can make a contribution to the industry as a whole.”The 2008 PartnerCentric Affiliate Survey of Network Preferences, conducted in April, asked some of the industry’s top performing affiliates to share their opinions about the largest affiliate networks by participating in a short 10-question survey.”We focused our survey on network preferences this year because we wanted to understand a number of things from the affiliate perspective,” said Samantha Morris, Director of Client Services for PartnerCentric. “First and foremost, we wanted to better understand what factors influence affiliates when selecting a network. We also wanted insight into network popularity, strengths and weaknesses direct from the affiliates.”The majority of affiliates surveyed (76%) said that the top reason they join a network is the merchants or advertisers who are part of the network. Of all the major networks, Commission Junction is the most popular, with nearly all of the affiliates surveyed (87%) saying they are currently working with CJ.
