Milwaukee Bucks, Charlie Villanueva rushed to his phone during half time against the Boston Celtics to tweet. “”In da locker room, snuck to post my twitt. We’re playing the Celtics, tie ball game at da half. Coach wants more toughness. I gotta step up.”
It must have worked, he finished with a team high of 19, and the Bucks beat Boston, 86-77. He got a talking to after the game from head coach Scott Skiles…guess he’s not a fan of Twitter.

So you’ve got a website and some very happy visitors. You figure it’s a good idea to include testimonials from your visitors on your website. You’re certainly in good company, as many websites feature testimonials of all kinds – and many experts believe they increase credibility and therefore conversions or sales. So it’s a good idea, for what it’s worth – but they may not be worth much if they’re not BELIEVED.

There are lots of suggestions for how to make your testimonials believable. I found this top ten list. But, where is the REAL credibility?

Try authenticating your testimonials. Just like authenticating your website secure server certificate, you can authenticate the source and truthfulness of your testimonials. The AuthenticatedTestimonials.com service offers to verify the person credited with each of your testimonials and provides a “trusted” seal for you to display along with the testimonial.

If testimonials are a major part of your marketing mix, it’s worth checking out.

Viral marketing and viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives (such as product sales) through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses. It can be word-of-mouth delivered or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet. Viral marketing is a marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message voluntarily.

Viral promotions may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash games, advergames, ebooks, brandable software, images, or even text messages. The basic form of viral marketing is not infinitely sustainable.

The elements of viral marketing strategy are:

  • Gives away products or services
  • Provides for effortless transfer to others
  • Scales easily from small to very large
  • Exploits common motivations and behaviors
  • Utilizes existing communication networks
  • Takes advantage of others’ resources

DeepDyve, formerly Infovell has released a beta version of their deep Web search tool designed to dig below the surface of the Internet, reaching resources not indexed in Google and the other major search engines. With over 500 million pages indexed to date, DeepDyve is targeting in-depth, professional content that resides deep within the Web.

By using a search algorithm that matches patterns and symbols, DeepDyve returns complex data that is not likely to be found in traditional keyword searches. The goal is to filter out opinion sites and irrelevant content for researchers looking for highly relevant, non-opinionated information on complex topics.

Although this search tool can be used for free upon registration, a more complete version is available for $45 per month. While the major players in search offer free access without registration, we will see just how much people are interested in reaching these deeply buried web pages.

Change has come to the federal government, and Barack Obama hasn’t even been inaugurated as the nation’s 44th president. Change.gov — was launched within 24 hours of Obama’s presidential election victory over John McCain.

The interactive Web site of Obama’s transition team is the first sign that the candidate who revolutionized American politics with his heavy use of cutting-edge communications technology and social networking tools is preparing to transform the way the U.S. president interacts with the citizenry.

“Obama is going to be the first global leader of the digital age,” said Phil Noble, founder of PoliticsOnline.com, an Internet information and consulting company. “We are in totally uncharted territory.”

At the turn of the 20th century, William McKinley became the first mass-media president during the newspaper barons’ golden age. Three decades later, Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “fireside chats” ushered in the era of intimate radio communication. John F. Kennedy’s performances in televised news conferences brought Camelot to the masses. Obama’s presidency, experts say, will reflect a leap in communications technology that will allow the commander-in-chief to speak directly and unfiltered to the American people. It could also allow the American people to interact in unprecedented ways with the nation’s chief executive and the federal bureaucracy.

Still unsure of who to vote for? These two tools may help you decide.

Glassbooth.org has created a great tool to help you see if your beliefs are those of the candidate you are voting for. After rating issues that are important to you, it will generate a short quiz for you to take. The results show you which candidate you are more aligned with and it gives you explanations to the politicians stands.

Anther helpful tool has been created by The Political Compass. This is a little more demanding of time, but still worth looking at and seeing with who you align thoughts with.

Both of these will 100% make you think about your vote on November 4th. No matter who you vote for, just make sure you vote!

In this tough economic time, safe investment options are scarce. Dwindling revenues across the board are resulting in a decrease in spending for most businesses. Online ad sales, however, continue to look promising, showing double-digit growth for the first half of the year, compared to the first half of 2007. The first half of 2008, according to data from the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers, shows a 15.2% online ad growth rate. The growth includes spending on search, display (banners), rich media, and email advertising.

It is actually possible that online advertising can benefit from the current economic uncertainty. Marketers are forced to tighten up and focus their efforts on a medium that is both measurable and effective so they know that their ad spending is creating real revenue. Since online advertising provides both measurability and effectiveness, many advertisers are likely to pull the brakes on traditional marketing strategies and spend more on internet marketing.

This is not to say that online advertising and ecommerce are completely safe from economic downfall, as no business really is. The industry is, however, showing much more promise than most industries.

T-Mobile’s G1 smartphone, with a tentative release date of October 22, may be attainable much sooner if you have the right connections. The phone, which is the first to utilize Google’s Android interface, boasts features such as Wi-Fi, a QWERTY keyboard, a touch screen, and support for third-party applications.

Of course top dogs like Larry Paige have been showing off their new Android phones, but a number of lower-level Google employees have recently been spotted tinkering with the Android phone too. Apparently, the G1s are quickly making their way around the Google hierarchy.

So if you want to get your hands on the next generation smartphone, get out your black book and look for a Google employee to call.
