If you’re a publisher located in Cyprus, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, San Marino, Slovenia, or Vatican City, you can now switch to local currency reports to view your earnings in Euros. Once you make this change, any earnings generated from advertisers paying on other currencies will be converted to Euros each day. This also means that if you’re receiving payments in Euros, there won’t be any additional conversions at the end of the month when payments are issued.

Before you switch to local currency reports, we suggest you download and save copies of your past reports in U.S. dollars for your records. Once you’ve done that, look for the green prompt in the upper right hand corner of your Reports Overview page. Click the link in the prompt, and you’ll be asked to agree to a new set of Terms and Conditions. If you have questions or need legal advice on interpreting the new Terms, please don’t hesitate to contact your attorney.

We encourage you to switch to local currency reports soon, since we’ll be requiring this update in the future. You can learn more about these new reports in our Help Center, and we also recommend reviewing answers to a few FAQs we covered on the blog before.

Euro reporting for more European countries

We’ve been working to enable local currency reporting in more countries, and are happy to announce that this feature is now available for publishers located in Denmark and Norway. As a reminder, switching to these new reports means that all earnings generated from advertisers paying in other currencies will be converted to your local currency each day. If you receive payments in your local currency, there won’t be any additional conversions at the end of the month, but you can still update your payment method and currency at any time.

If you’re located in one of these countries, we recommend that you first download and save copies of your past reports in U.S. dollars for your records. Once you’re ready to switch to local currency reports, sign in to your account and look for the green prompt in the upper right hand corner of your Reports Overview page. Click on the link, and you’ll then be asked to agree to a new set of Terms and Conditions. If you have questions or need legal advice on interpreting the new Terms, please don’t hesitate to contact your attorney.

We encourage you to switch to local currency reports soon, as we’ll be requiring this change in the future. To learn more about these new reports, visit our Help Center or review common FAQs in a recent Inside AdSense blog post — all references to ‘Euros’ in the post now also apply to your local currency.

Expanding availability of local currency reports

If you saw this text on a webpage, how would you figure out what it means?

Если вы читаете этот текст, вы, вероятно, уже говорите по-русски. Однако миллионы людей не знают русского и не могут прочитать миллионы русскоязычных веб-страниц.*

You would likely need to translate manually via our language tools or in Toolbar. Today we’re excited to announce that translations will be even easier with the newest release of Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer. We have been working with the Translate team to make translations a faster and more integrated part of your browsing experience.

The Translate feature automatically detects if the language of a webpage you’re on is different from your default language setting and allows you to translate it. With one click, you can now instantly translate the page and all of its text will appear in the new language.

Language detection happens only on your computer, so no information is sent to Google until you choose to translate a page. You can find more details about how the feature works in our help center.

If you go to another page in the same language, you will continue to see translations rather than have to translate one page at a time. And if the page has dynamic content, like Google Reader, you will get translations in real-time. Finally, if you frequently translate pages in the same language, Toolbar will let you translate that language automatically without any extra clicks in the future.

The new Translate feature is available in all international versions of Toolbar, including English, and the translation service supports 41 different languages: Albanian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.

Download Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer to try it out for yourself. We’ll add this feature to Toolbar for Firefox soon, too.

* In case you don’t speak Russian, we translated the paragraph above for you using our translation engine:

If you are reading this text, you probably already speak in Russian. However, millions of people do not know Russian and cannot read the millions of Russian-language webpages.

As a daily Google Chrome user, I was excited to hear about Google Chrome with 3D. That is until I tried to print out my 3D glasses and realized there were no lenses!

Maybe I was a little more gullible than most – but the 3D web browser proved to be a success, both increasing exposure and downloads of the Google browser.
Users were prompted to download “Google Chrome with 3D” in order to bridge the gap between the 2D online world and the 3D real world. The page even features testimonials, screenshots of the browser and photos of users wearing the printable glasses.
This made the page look legitimate and resulted in a ton of downloads of the special version of Google Chrome on April 1st. As more and more people caught on to the joke, the news began to flood the blogosphere, increasing Chrome’s exposure worldwide.
You can read more about Google’s Fool on the Chrome Blog.

One of the requests we frequently hear from our international publishers is to view reports in currencies other than U.S. Dollars. That’s why we’re happy to announce that publishers located in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain can now view AdSense reports in Euros.

If you’re located in one of these five countries and make this update, we’ll convert your earnings to Euros on a daily basis using the prevailing market rate from the previous day. With earnings converted daily, you’ll avoid the risk of currency exchange fluctuations between USD and the Euro. You can still choose to receive payments in either Euros or U.S. Dollars and select from a range of payment methods as well.

To make the switch to local currency reports, you’ll need to agree to a new set of Terms and Conditions. Here are the main changes involved:

  • The party that publishers are contracting with changes from Google Inc. to Google Ireland Limited.
  • Publishers are responsible for paying any local taxes in their jurisdiction. Google will only issue VAT refunds to publishers with an address in Ireland.
  • The governing law changes from California law to either English or local law.

You can view the full text of these new Terms and Conditions by logging in to your account and looking for the green prompt, “See your daily earnings reported in Euro amounts!” on your Reports Overview page. Unfortunately, we’re not able to interpret the meaning of changes in our legal documents for publishers — if you have questions or need legal advice on interpreting the new Terms, please don’t hesitate to contact an attorney.

Before agreeing to the new Terms, we also recommend that you download and save copies of your past reports in U.S. Dollars for your records. Once you update your account, you’ll be able to view current and historical reports only in Euros. However, you’ll still be able to view your prior payment history of U.S. Dollar earnings.

We encourage you to update your account to local currency reports soon, as we may require this change in the future. If we’re able to offer this to publishers in other countries, we’ll provide details here on Inside AdSense. For more information, please feel free to visit our Help Center.

(Cross-posted from the Google SketchUp Blog)

Chilly weather, hot chocolate, holiday celebrations… I’m proud to kick off our sweetest SketchUp modeling challenge ever: the first annual Google SketchUp Gingerbread House Design Competition. To make it a little easier to design the gingerbread house of your dreams, I modeled a blank house to get you started. Go ahead and download it from the 3D Warehouse, then follow the instructions in the file.

I also built a selection of decorations (candy canes, gumdrops, wafer roof tiles) that you can use to spiff up your model. Of course, you’re welcome to do anything you like; it’s your masterpiece. When you’re finished, don’t forget to label your gingerbread house with the tag “gingerbread2009″ and upload it to the 3D Warehouse. The competition deadline is January 4th at midnight, Pacific Standard Time.

This undertaking is all about having fun with SketchUp, so the prizes will be glory based. (What did you expect: a gingerbread flat-screen TV?) We’ll award the following prizes, and announce the winners here and on the SketchUpdate about a week after the competition closes on January 4th.

  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd place – for the best overall gingerbread houses in the collection
  • The ‘Sprinkles’ Prize – for the best additions to the base model (the crazier, the better)
  • The ‘Swirl’ Prize – for the best use of Dynamic Components in the model
  • The ‘Sweet-tooth’ Prize – for the most creative use of a single candy ingredient in a model

If you’re looking for inspiration, take a gander at what folks did with Santa’s sleigh last year. Have fun, and happy holidays.
